Hairless and covered in crusted skin, young puppy Barbie was barely holding on when we pulled her from our local shelter. The entire surface of her body reeks of infection, and without intervention, she will not survive this unforgiving disease.Barbie is suffering from a severe case of Demodex mange caused by an overgrowth of naturally occurring mites on the skin. Her body is ravaged by infection, and she’s dangerously anemic. The shelter staff told us she had stopped eating, and we knew we were running out of time to save her. However, just minutes after arriving in our care, Barbie took her first bites of food. She let us know she was ready to keep fighting. We immediately got to work, soothing her skin with a medicated bath, giving her the first moments of relief she’d felt in weeks. The next morning—for the first time in who knows how long—she found the strength to stand and follow us around. While she has already made some remarkable strides, Barbie still has a very long road ahead of her. Her critical care will include antibiotics, iron supplements, high-calorie food, electrolyte support, and daily treatments to heal her damaged skin. This all comes at an exorbitant cost, and we can’t do it without you.Help us give Barbie a chance by contributing to her medical fund or donating any items from her wish list of supplies. This little girl is depending on each and every one of us, and we can’t let her down. We will be sure to keep you updated on her progress when we can. Thank you for your invaluable generosity.Barbie is being cared for by Hannah's Southern Paws in Mesquite, TX. | CUDDLY
